Hi, I am Basile "Buddy" Bonicel, a video-game developer, sound designer and musician.
I am used to C++, C#, Unity, ActionScript 3, FLStudio, Reaper and Wwise. I am quite familiar with Blender too.
I have been studying game development since 2019, first in a french engineering school in IT, the ENSIIE, and then in Canada, at the Université du Québec à Chicoutimi (UQAC). Video games are my passion, and I am currently working hard for it to become my full-time job.
I also love creating musical content for video games. I have participated in a few game jams already (GMTK 2020 , GGJ 2020, Brackeys, LD46, WonderJam 2021, Unijam), mostly as a sound designer and musician.
My most important project to this date is Trouble-Fête. You can try its first prototype here for free : https://uqac.itch.io/trouble-fete. For now, it is available on pc with a controller, in french, english and spanish, enjoy !
1) Concerning my role in Trouble-Fête :
I designed and developed pretty much everything related to sound and music in this game, from coding the audio manager, networked audio manager and sound class and making 3D audio, to creating the game musics/SFX from scratch, designing the audio and integrating all the created sounds to the game. I learnt a lot about how sounds interact with the rest of the game, and how the player perceives the result.
Trouble-Fête is still in development, we recently added english and spanish versions to the initial french game. The keyboard support, as well as other yet-to-be-announced features, is almost ready too. The project is still in development, new updates are coming very soon !
2) Concerning Voidscape :
In the early days of the project, I worked on the player's movement and jump. Then, I worked on enemies and their behavior. Last, but not least, I added most of the game's sound effects. I also participated in designing a few levels, and wrote the musical theme on FLStudio.
3) Finally, my projects as sound designer/ composer only (no code from me here) :
- In Kapou, every single sound you hear is entirely made by myself, except for the chainsaw and the drumroll, because I did not have any drumkit or chainsaw nearby, unfortunately... ! I composed the music, wrote it on FLStudio and mixed it, recorded sound effects with objects in my environment (and with my voice) and edited them with Reaper. Hand-made ! With Kapou, my team and I won the Wonderjam.
- As for Arbitrium, I composed the whole music (and again, recorded myself all the sound effects you here in the music : whistles, cracks, polyphonic singing, brushing sounds, etc.). This time though, I chose to play the instruments myself, so I improvised and recorded the piano melody. I also made the other sound effects from the game with a friend.
- Electro groove is my very first FLStudio work, as well as my first musical composition. It was made in 48h for the Ludum Dare 46 Gamejam. I started writing a jazz tune and found it too smooth and calm for the game it went with. Therefore, I changed the melody and tried to give the whole piece an electro flavour, and make it a bit more punchy.
Oh, and I like cookies.
(And if you wondered, on the picture at the top of this page, I am the person holding the prize cardboard on the right)
